NAVADA MURDER TRIAL BEGINS

  by B J BECKHAM The case of State -v- Arnold Gardener appeared on the calendar in a New Grace Courthouse for a hearing. Mr. Gardener is charged with the murder of New Grace Deputy Sheriff Horace Nevada who disappeared on February 12, 2008 and whose body was discovered in April 2016 in a freezer in a shed. Mr. Gardener is also charged with the murder of Linda Leeds under a separate docket number. During the forensic examination of the shed and its contents the investigative team discovered fingerprints belonging to convicted serial killer Lowery. by B J BECKHAM The trial of Opal May, the woman charged with robbing her own jewelry store and causing the death of  Theresa Burkart, concluded Wednesday in the New Grace County Courthouse. In her closing statement Rachel Shorte, of Henley, Martin and Kelly, asserted that the prosecution was trying to trick the jury into seeing facts that were not there.  She stated that the charge of insurance fraud was unfounded. by B J BECKHAM The trial of Opal May, the jewelry store owner charged with robbing her own store, continued on Monday, in the New Grace County Courthouse. The proceeding began with Doyle  May taking the stand. Mr. May, the husband of the accused, was quick to assure the jury that he was neither involved in the robbery on July 8,  2015 or the transfer of funds from the store’s accounts to the Caymen Island account in his sister-in-laws name.  He confirmed the store’s security system had been non-operational for almost a year, a fact known to the defendant....

To recap – Craig LaPorte of the Attorney General’s office promised the jury he would present video and documents to prove defendant Opal May, owner of Krystal Karats, staged the robbery of her own store and in her attempt to flee the scene caused the death of Theresa Burkart.  Ms. May is charged with felony murder, insurance fraud, discharging a weapon within the town limits and filing a false police report. by BJ BECKHAM The trial of Opal May  began on December 24th  in the New Grace County Courthouse.  Craig LaPorte of the Attorney General’s Office presented his opening statement. Krystal Karats on Main Street in Rosemeade was robbed on the afternoon of July 8, 2015.  The owner reported being in the store alone when a woman entered pushing a stroller.
