JULY 4TH – A HIGHLIGHT OF UPCOMING EVENTS

 by SHANNON LONGNECK PRIDE IN DIVERSITY PARADE The tenth annual Pride in Diversity Parade will be held on Main Street Monday September 7th. The parade will start at Sycamore Blvd. at 9am and continue to Oak Park. The Diversity Celebration will begin at the end of the route at 11am. Live bands will play on two stages and many of our fine local food trucks have reserved spaces. Mayor Ashani Postley of New Grace will give a welcoming speech scheduled for noon. FUNDRAISERS SCHEDULED FOR LINDLEY LIBRARY

by B J BECKHAM County officials announced yesterday that the Lindley Branch of the New Grace Public Library which was destroyed by fire on September 14, 2015 will find a new home. After the court ruled on June 5, 2016 that the land which the Lindley Branch sat on will revert back to the estate of Homer Hampton, the county started a search for a new location. NEW LINDLEY LIBRARY DERAILED TWICE

by B J Beckham The New Grace County Public Library has agreed to build a new branch in Lindley to replace the one destroyed by fire on September 14, 2015.  There is some funding in place, but the county is hoping to pass a bond to raise money. If the bond is approved each resident will be required to pay one dollar on their state return to cover the cost. There will also be several fund raisers throughout the county. CHRISTMAS LIGHT PRANKSTER IN COURT

The twenty-two count indictment, which included three charges of abduction and assault, reflected the bizarre crimes that took place across New Grace County on December 10th  which left the victims tied naked with Christmas lights to a sleigh in a homeowner’s Christmas  display. Brother and sister Silver and Raymond Gold were arrested on December 12, 2015 for the abduction of Andrew Palmer from his car dealership in Beaudeclaire after forensic evidence linked to Ms. Silver. BOOKS BURN IN LINDLEY

LINDLEY, SC by B J Beckman  At 3:20 Monday morning firepersons from both Lindley firehouses responded to an alarm at 640 E Main, the site of the Homer Hampton Memorial Library in Lindley. Two firefighters were treated for smoke inhalation at New Grace County Hospital and released. Marion Joyce of Rosemeade said she first suspected something was wrong when she was driving down Main Street, “I couldn’t see any flames, but the sky seemed to be glowing.
