JULY 4TH – A HIGHLIGHT OF UPCOMING EVENTS
by SHANNON LONGNECK
PRIDE IN DIVERSITY PARADE
The tenth annual Pride in Diversity Parade will be held on Main Street Monday September 7th. The parade will start at Sycamore Blvd. at 9am and continue to Oak Park. The Diversity Celebration will begin at the end of the route at 11am. Live bands will play on two stages and many of our fine local food trucks have reserved spaces. Mayor Ashani Postley of New Grace will give a welcoming speech scheduled for noon.
THE FABULOUS FLOAT FEST
Rent a tube or bring your own float and join your neighbors on a relaxing journey down the Emera River. Last year an estimated three thousand people united in the refreshing display. If you enter the river between Hampshire and Skylar Streets in Acadia you will have a smooth ride all the way to Namenda Park where many local vendors will be set up. Enter between Hawkings and Hampshire if you would like to start with a slightly more vigorous ride. Kayaker, canoeist and white water rafters are welcome, but please remember to stay in your own lane.
FIREWORKS ON COMPARI ISLAND
On Sunday and Monday nights, beginning at 9pm, fireworks will be displayed at Layfette Park, Madison Park, Lindley Commons and Compari Island on Sabina Lake.
We remind the public that due to the dangerous nature of fireworks Campari Island will be off limits to anyone not associated with The Galley Family Fireworks Company. The New Grace County Sheriff’s Department will be on the tiny island to enforce the temporary restriction.
