by B J BECKHAM The trial of Opal May, the woman charged with robbing her own jewelry store and causing the death of  Theresa Burkart, concluded Wednesday in the New Grace County Courthouse. In her closing statement Rachel Shorte, of Henley, Martin and Kelly, asserted that the prosecution was trying to trick the jury into seeing facts that were not there.  She stated that the charge of insurance fraud was unfounded. Crystal Karats on Main Street in Rosemeade was robbed on the afternoon of July 8, 2015.  The owner reported being in the store alone when a woman entered pushing a stroller. by B J BECKHAM The trial of Opal May, the jewelry store owner charged with robbing her own store, continued on Monday, in the New Grace County Courthouse. The proceeding began with Doyle  May taking the stand. Mr. May, the husband of the accused, was quick to assure the jury that he was neither involved in the robbery on July 8,  2015 or the transfer of funds from the store’s accounts to the Caymen Island account in his sister-in-laws name.  He confirmed the store’s security system had been non-operational for almost a year, a fact known to the defendant....

LEAD LEADS TO LEEDS IN NEVADA INVESTIGATION

by B J BECKHAM The investigation into the murder of Deputy Sheriff Horace Nevada of New Grace County has taken a new turn.  After disappearing on February 12, 2008, Deputy Nevada’s body was discovered in April 2016.  The remains were in a freezer in a shed on property owned by the Belands at the time of the deputy’s disappearance. New information led to another body. On October 21, 2015 deputies of the New Grace Sheriff’s department were called to a disturbance at the Hallmark Motel, Saint Georgina.  Upon arrival they were informed by owner Walter Bell that three people who were not guests were in the pool, appeared intoxicated and had failed to leave when asked. NAVADA MURDER TRIAL BEGINS

Mr. Gardener is charged with the murder of New Grace Deputy Sheriff Horace Nevada who disappeared on February 12, 2008 and whose body was discovered in April 2016 in a freezer in a shed. Mr. Gardener is also charged with the murder of Linda Leeds under a separate docket number. NO DEVELOPMENT IN NEVADA INVESTIGATION

 by B J BECKHAM Officials continue to investigate the murder of New Grace Deputy Horace Nevada who disappeared without a trace on the night of February 12, 2008. His body was discovered on April 11, 2016  in a freezer on property recently purchased in Acadia by Corey and Megan Inker. The previous owners, The Belands, were killed more than seven months ago on Interstate 26.
