THE M BAR

The red neon sign displaying a moving martini glass with the words underneath “shaken, not stirred” leaves no doubt as to what awaits one inside “The M Bar & Restaurant”. The only thing more adventurous than the menu is finding a table in New Grace’s new hot spot. It has quickly become the local in-place to be. Nestled inside the multi-million dollar newly renovated Blair Hotel, it gives new meaning to the term “unique experiences in dining”. The...

SOMETHING TO WINE ABOUT – DINNER CRUISE ABOARD THE SPIRIT OF OLYMPUS

Grab your friends or someone special, hop aboard the Spirit of Olympus and spend three leisurely hours cruising Sabine Lake aboard a newly refitted and extravagant yacht. My family and dear friend Nick enjoyed a five-star dinner and lively entertainment celebrating the latest courtroom victory of New Grace attorney and my sister Mimi Linton. The Spirit of Olympus embarks Friday night for dinner and Sunday for brunch from Golden Shores Marina, casually circling Lake...

TORTILLERIA MEXICANA LOS HERMANOS

When we first entered the well lit space, with a décor of all the colors in the Mexican flag, my son said, “It looks authentic,” but my son has never been to Mexico  and has only other American based Mexican restaurant from which to make his comparison.  However, when I told my son the restaurant we were going to claimed to be authentic , I was referring to the food. Whenever I see the...

THE BONE YARD

The Bone Yard slow-cook their barbecue with hardwood only. They serve meat that is largely raised on pastures or outdoors, including pork from old breeds with flavorful rosy flesh and a thick girdle of white fat that bastes the meat as it melts. The restaurant, which opened in December, runs on the cafeteria model, with meat at the start of the assembly line, drinks at the end and shiny metal trays that you ferry...

MR CHOW’S

When the urge to have Chinese food strikes and nothing will satisfy you until you get it, a visit to Mr. Chow’s should certainly be on your list.  The combination of authentic cuisine in a beautiful, hospitable atmosphere was exactly the reason Bruce Chow spent a considerable sum to turn a vacant space into an elegant restaurant with big granite tables, intricately etched lamps and chopsticks adorned with shiny silver bands. Bruce and his...

ALEXANDRO’S ITALIAN GRILL

For people like me, who spend their evenings visiting many Italian establishments, baffled by crowded, multipage menus and gorging on similar variations of pasta primavera, bolognese sauce, and fried calamari, escaping to Alexandro’s Italian Grill was a delight.  Located on a nondescript corner of New Grace, this bespoke Italian restaurant is a Roman-inspired trattoria that serves up very much old-school Italian favorites with homemade pastas, made fresh on-site.  The modest little restaurant occupies a...

THE CASTAWAYS

Being a hamburger connoisseur it’s always a delight when my editor assigns the newest burger incarnation for my review.  So last week, my intrepid burger editor, Rob Greenbaum and I ventured to The Castaways – sort of our annual semi-scientific experiment to burgerology. This place is all attitude, from the pierced-and-tattered-up waitstaff to their 20 plus burger varieties. sirloin half-pounders that are flamed-grilled and then garnished with almost everything imaginable, including peanut butter. Yep,...

LUIGI’S ORIGINAL PIZZERIA

New Grace residents now have a new pizzeria featuring authentic Neapolitan and Sicilian pizza.  This charming pizzeria, complete with a red and white awning, welcomes the pizza loving enthusiasts. Upon entering the tantalizing aroma of tomato, Italian herbs and dough baking is irresistible. The restaurant is spacious, well lit and inviting.  There are coastal pictures of the Amalfi seashore and familiar Italian landmarks. I just loved the black and white checked tile floor the...
